How Uploading Works on ddownload
There are several convenient methods to upload your files to ddownload. The easiest is the classic web upload directly in your browser, allowing you to upload one or more files from your local computer. If you want to import files from the internet, the remote upload via URL is ideal – you can insert up to 50 links at once. The “Copy” feature lets you transfer files directly from another ddownload account into your own. This is especially useful if you want to back up content without downloading it first. If you prefer to use an external program, FTP upload is also available. Each account gets unique FTP credentials, which can be used with free tools like FileZilla. Once uploaded, your files will automatically appear in your file manager shortly after. Alternatively, ddownload also supports the File & Image Uploader for file management. Regardless of the method you choose, the maximum file size is always 2 gigabytes.
Easily Manage Files in Your Browser
Your uploaded files can be organized directly in your browser. ddownload’s integrated file manager provides all the essential tools: create folders, search files, rename, delete, or protect them with a password. You can flexibly adjust the number of files displayed per page between 10 and 500. Premium users benefit only from an extended storage period of up to 60 days – no additional features are available here.
The available tools are functional but leave room for improvement. Direct drag-and-drop to move files is not supported – instead, the target folder must be selected from a dropdown. There are no warnings for files that are about to be deleted, which may lead to unexpected data loss. Also, there's no overview of when or how often a file was downloaded. Sharing is limited to individual files – sharing entire folders is not supported.
How Downloading Works on ddownload
Downloading files works similarly for free and premium users. However, users without a premium account must solve a captcha and wait before each download. Speed is also heavily limited – max 50 KB/s – making the experience less convenient. Still, files can be downloaded reliably without a premium account if you have some patience.
Regardless of file size: after a completed download, free users must wait for two hours before the next download. This cooldown also applies if the download was canceled or if only a very small file was downloaded. For managing and downloading multiple files, we recommend the free tool JDownloader. Premium users benefit from features like parallel downloads, pause and resume functionality – all without speed limits.
